Water Pollution by Industries

There is no dearth of resources on this planet. Our mother earth has blessed the humankind with ample amount of resources which are even beyond the imagination of the humans. One of these is the “water” which is an elixir for human life. But now the scenario has changed completely. Instead of paying gratitude to the mother earth, humans are misappropriating this resource and have taken it for granted. What is more, they are not only missing it but are also polluting this ambrosia.

“Water-Water everywhere, not a drop to drink”- this is the present world we are living in. Our so-called development in the industrial sector has played a crucial role in polluting the water. Industries have worked day and night to make the above-said statement a horrible reality of life. Undoubtedly, industrial development is must for any nation but such a development at the expense of our valuable resources is nothing, but mere a waste.
WATER POLLUTION BY INDUSTRIES

The pollutants produced by the industries, when dumped into the rivers, lakes, and oceans, release toxins and chemicals into the fresh water which is hazardous not only for the living creatures but also for the environment. Along with this, many industries even use the clean water to sweep away the trash from plant and machinery. This pours various chemicals and pollutants like asbestos, lead, mercury, sulfur, oils, and petrochemicals into the water. Some of these are very problematic for the marine life and some accounts for multitudinous diseases caused by humans such as Cancer, Mesothelioma, Asbestos-is, etc.

This also sometimes create disturbance in the nutrient content of water. This imbalance occurs in two ways: increase or decrease. When it increases, it leads to eutrophication. Eutrophication refers to the process of increment in the nutrients and minerals in water and therefore having an excessive growth of algae on the surface of the water which gives rise to “algal bloom”. This diminishes the oxygen content in water and hence resulting as an obstacle for human and aquatic life.
POLLUTED WATER COME FROM INDUSTRIES

In progressing countries, industries take every rule and regulation or policy for granted and ignore them readily. Moreover, many industries use orthodox and conventional technology which is inefficient as compared to the latest and modern technology. Use of this technology induces the production of pollutants in water. Further, numerous small-scale industries do not treat the polluted water before discharging it into the rivers or oceans. All these factors constitute the problem of water pollution.

In the light of above-mentioned facts, it is crystal clear that industries are undoubtedly contributing to the biggest problem of the current scenario but if proper prevention and precautions are considered regarding the above-mentioned causes of water pollution, then there will be for sure, a remarkable decline in the problem of water pollution. In addition, with the combined efforts of public and the industrial units, positive changes could be brought up in this regard.
